Costa Palmera is part of Costa Rica's National Parks system which was developed in 1970. Our vicinity hosts several volcanos and two dozen or more national parks, wildlife refuges and biological reserves between La Cruz through the Guanacaste Mountain Range to Tempisque in the Nicoya Gulf region. To name but two: Junguillal Bay Wildlife Preserve in Santa Cruz, is ideal for boating, as well as being a refuge for an assortment of seabirds including the Magnificent Frigatebird (Fregata magnificens). In the Tempisque area you will find the Lomas Barbudal Biological Reserve.
